This Spokane, Washington company was founded by Tim and Beth Merck, a couple who shared a love for rich European Christmas traditions. Following 19th-century practices, molten glass is mouth-blown into carved molds before a hot solution of liquid silver is poured inside. Then the ornaments are hand-painted and glittered in a series of labor-intensive steps. Deep forests surrounded the cottages of the glassblowers. Animals ventured near the woods and many of these creatures served as inspiration for charming ornaments such as this glittering buffalo standing among the amber waves of grain.
