Whealdon and Others were preserved by the Montana Writers Project and were conducted orally by several different writers. "I Will Be Meat for my Salish" by Bon I. Whealdon and Others tells the story of the Salish Indians and their connection to the buffalo. "I Will Be Meat for my Salish" by Bon I. Whealdon and Others begins during the pre-reservation period. The story in "I Will Be Meat for my Salish" by Bon I. Whealdon and Others continues with the arrival of white settlers as well as other tribes who were fleeing the expansion of the United States and the consequences it had on the Salish. Using the accounts of Salish elders, "I Will Be Meat for my Salish" by Bon I. Whealdon and Others is a story meant to preserve the legends of the Salish and their connection to the buffalo.
