Whealdon and Others tells the story of the Salish Indians and their connection to the buffalo. "I Will Be Meat for my Salish" by Bon I. Whealdon and Others begins during the pre-reservation period. The story in "I Will Be Meat for my Salish" by Bon I. Whealdon and Others continues with the arrival of white settlers as well as other tribes who were fleeing the expansion of the United States and the consequences it had on the Salish. Using the accounts of Salish elders, "I Will Be Meat for my Salish" by Bon I. Whealdon and Others is a story meant to preserve the legends of the Salish and their connection to the buffalo.

"The story of the Salish's relationship to the buffalo- including their role in protecting the species- is preserved in this collection, which includes all extant interviews from the Montana Writers Project conducted on the Flathead Reservation. These firsthand accounts of Salish elders- legends, information about traditional lifeways, biographies of important figures on the reservation, and most of all buffalo- offer a glimpse into tribal life as it was lived in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries."
